A clear vision
on pedagogy

The NVO is the professional association of more than 6.500 university-educated teachers and educationalists. They support the representatives in the field who are trying to turn the tide by standardized teaching methods to turn into an experience that engages young people and acts as a gateway to empower excitement, inspiration and joy.

Within minutes of meeting communications consultant and former director Hans Bosman and Rinke Bok, we became convinced of the scope of their vision. This first meeting led directly to the keywords for the new identity: passion and joy.

The proposal to interview a number of members was enthusiastically received. The result gave a deeper understanding in the ambitious vision of the organization as well as its supporters. Although the NVO actually supports its members, their ultimate target groups are children and young adults who are supported by those members.

Prior to the mission, we have asked NVO to complete a strategic questionnaire. This is intended to modify the thoughts and ideas of the main stakeholders and provide a thorough understanding of the brand, its values and mission to achieve its objectives and grasp the competitive landscape, the challenges and opportunities. The questionnaire was adapted to the specific context of the project. The real goal is to invite and inspire a dialogue about the brand. It paves the way for the next meeting, which is what creates the essential insight and understanding.

Toys are the basis of the visual language

Play, build and develop are the associations that form the basis of the communication language. The starting point is pedagogically sound toys like Lego, Duplo and Mecano. Through connecting, stacking and coupling you get results while playing. Bright colors are also distracted from the same references. A fresh color palette is the result. The use of dark blue and attenuated variants of the main colors, provide a more substantive base and are (depending on the purpose of the message) used to a greater or lesser extent.

1. Inspiration, analysis & research For transforming an organization – not known for its progressiveness, let alone owning a pioneering role – into being a frontrunner it seemed necessary to see if this would be feasible. All brilliant ideas needed to be tightened up and the core was to be found. Before the project really got started, a strategic questionnaire by members of the board and the project was completed.

2. Strategy Because the strategic plan of the NVO already had answered many questions upfront, the questionnaire was adapted especially to determine the competitiveness of the NVO within the educational arena. As part of the questionnaire, the NVO was asked to describe their brand in four adjectives. The emphasis on words that are as distinctive as possible, and that no other brand can claim within the field.

3. A colourful execution
A palette of bold, bright colors interspersed with subtle blue, captures the joy in working with and for children and young adults. The creative and dynamic energy of the organization is supported by the appearance of the brand.

4. Implementation
A NVO registration does profile members on the basis of quality. The record makes content clear and shows sufficient equipment for working in the field. A registration in the form of a wall tile with a quote if wisdom is the first manifestation of the NVO towards its members to vent her newfound playfulness without compromising the learned soul.

Exposition

Because of the 50th anniversary of the NVO, they organized a number of special activities. One is the exhibition ’50 years of gathering’. A retrospective exhibition at the Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement. Fifty important objects that played a significant role in pedagogy or at the conclusion of the NVO, are highlighted. Like the first statutes that have previously been awarded by Queen Juliana but also Lego as pedagogically sound toys. Also the history and future of the organisation passing through photographs, writings and film material.
